- To construct, move, demolish, and/or erect any structure.
- To make improvements or alterations to a building or structure.
- To roof or re-roof your home or other building.
- To make plumbing, or heating installations or alterations.
- To install a wood burning stove or build a fireplace.
Separate permits are required for building & plumbing work.
The purpose of the various permits is to ensure that the health, safety, and your
investment in your property are protected. The permits are based on a variety of
Codes enacted by the Province of BC and ratified by the Mackenzie and District
Council. These Codes include the B.C. Building Code and the B.C. Plumbing Code.
In addition, the evidence of a building permit is often necessary to obtain financing
from lending agencies. Fire and liability insurance damages may not be paid in some
cases where permits were not obtained and improvements do not meet regulations.
There is no single fee for the various permits. Fees are based on the value of
your project and the number of plumbing fixtures. Some projects are subject to plan
check and the permit fee is collected at the time the building permit is issued.
In brief, you will need a building, plumbing, and - or a mechanical permit for any
work that physically changes or adds structures to your property. When in doubt,
please give our Building Inspector a call at 997-3221 or email
