The community's size determines how many elected
officials will sit on Council.
Mackenzie's population requires we elect a Mayor and six Councillors who hold office
for a three-year period. Municipal Councils make decisions on behalf of the residents
of a municipality. The Community Charter gives Council the authority to establish
policy, set budgets and levy the taxes which local residents will pay to provide
services. In British Columbia, municipal elections are held on every third year. Our
next Council will be elected in November 2011.
The public is welcome to attend all open Council meetings.
Open Council meetings are
generally held on the second and fourth Monday night of each month at 7:30 pm in the
Council Chambers at 1 Mackenzie, Blvd. The Mayor chairs regular meetings of Council.
The rules governing the conduct of the meetings are outlined in the Council Procedure
Bylaw and generally follow Robert's Rules of Order.
