Welcome to District of Mackenzie Water Services.
The goal of the Water Services Division is to provide sufficient and safe water at the lowest
possible cost to the District's residents. To meet this goal, we recognize that both the water
supplier and customer must work together. In keeping with our commitment to work in partnership
with the community to achieve informed customers and successful water service, we believe it is
our responsibility to provide guidance and education on all aspects of water. If you would like
to see more information about a specific water topic, or have comments, please contact Water
Services Administration at 997-3761.
District of Mackenzie water supply comes from wells at Gantahaz and Morfee Lake.
The Water Services Division is responsible for maintaining the distribution systems that get water to
your door.

The amount of water used for any particular reason is often determined
by habit. Our showers, dish washing and cleaning activities often can be
altered in small ways to save litres of water over time. Here are
some tips that can save water and money.
In the Bathroom:
- Take a five-minute shower instead of a bath. This can save about 57 litres
per shower.
- Install a low-flow shower head to reduce water use by 50% or more.
- New ultra-low-flush models use 6 litres per flush rather than 23
or 26 litres.
- Flush toilets half as often - saves at least 45 litres per day.
- Dont use toilets as a wastebasket, flush only when essential. This can
save at least 45 litres per day.
- When brushing teeth, use a glassful of water instead of running tap. This
can save 11 or more litres per brushing.
In the Kitchen:
- When washing dishes by hand, wash in a filled basin, not with running water.
This can save 95 litres per load.
- When using a dishwasher, wait until you have a full load, short cycle uses
only 26 litres. This can save 38-45 litres per each cycle not run.
- Keep a pitcher of cold water in the refrigerator instead of running it
at the tap until it cools. This can save about 8 litres per drink.
- Thaw frozen foods in the refrigerator, not under running water. This can
save 19 litres or more per meal.
In the Laundry Room:
- Wait until you have a full load. This can save about 114 litres for each
small load not run.
- Purchase a new washing machine with water-saving features; load size selector;
and variable water level control. This can save as much as 114 litres per
load.
Lawn & Garden:
- Deep soak garden once weekly rather than sprinkle lightly several times
a week. This can save over 189 litres a week in the summer.
- Water evening or morning to prevent rapid evaporation during heat of day.
This can save 132 litres per 1/2 acre of watering not needed.
- Use a nozzle which can be shut off or adjusted. This can save 19 litres
per minute.
Outside Around the Home:
- Use a broom rather than a hose to remove leaves and debris from driveway,
walk, patio, and pool decks. This can save 95 litres per 5 minutes of work.
- Cover swimming pool to slow down the evaporation of water. This can save
the equivalent of its volume each year.
- Use a car wash that recycles water or wash car at home. This can save 2082
litres per wash at a car wash.
- Wash car with a bucket, sponge and a hose with a shut-off valve. This can
save 322 litres or more per wash.
